Equality and Respect for all

The Laramie Project documentary by Moises Kaufman explores the aftermath of math of the brutal murder of Matthew Sheppard, which it was a gay student in Laramie, Wyoming. This documentary is beneficial for us to watch because it allows us to have a better understanding of the impacts of hate crimes and prejudices towards the LGBTQ community. This young student was murdered by two students because of his sexuality. It is important to teach individuals that no one should be seen differently. Whether you agree or disagree with their decisions it is always best to respect them and treat them with kindness. Everyone deserves to feel valued and accepted for who they are, regardless of their gender identity. At the end of the day we are all human beings.
In addition, according to The Trevor Project it stated how “for the fifth consecutive year, these data underscores that anti-LGBTQ victimization contributes to the higher rates of suicide risk reported by young people and that most who want mental health care are unable to get it.” Because of discrimination and harassment faced by LGBTQ youth increase their risk of experiencing suicidal thoughts and behaviors. Many of these individuals were seeking for help but because of the inequality or discrimination they were receiving there were unable to get the support they needed for their mental health. The Trevor Project reported that in the last year 41% of LGBTQ considered attempting suicide and 56% wanted to get mental health care. It is important to create a safe and inclusive environment in schools, workplaces and communities

Jasmin Rodriguez

Hello Everyone,

My name is Jasmin Rodriguez. I am in the 5-year program, majoring in childhood education in grades 1-6. My concentration is in psychology. I am hoping to get my masters in TESOL k-12 grade. This is my first semester at Molloy University. I am a transfer student with my associates degree from Suffolk County Community College.

Therefore, education has been an interest of mine for many years now. Children spark my life, bringing endless joy and enthusiasm into my life. I can’t wait to finally become a teacher to make my classroom feel like a safe place for them and be capable of creating a positive impact in their daily lives. It will be a deeply rewarding gift for me.

Anyway, I hope you all have a wonderful semester. Wishing you guys the best of luck in the future!
